APA LibraryGuide

The LibraryGuide APA guidelines is the result of a collaboration between several Dutch higher education institutions and the APA Working Group (Project APA7).

What is referencing?

Academic writing relies on more than just the ideas and experience of one author. It also uses the ideas and research of other sources: books, journal articles, websites, and so forth. These other sources may be used to support the author's ideas, or the author may be discussing, analyzing, or critiquing other sources.

Referencing is used to tell the reader where ideas from other sources have been used in an assignment.

The APA style is the most widely used reference style at Saxion.

APA style is a comprehensive guide to writing scientific texts. An important part of the APA style are the guidelines for literature reference and source citation.

Tools for referencing literature

A reference manager can help you make a reference list (and citations in your text) in APA Style.

Saxion Library will support the reference manager Zotero. A LibGuide will be created for that purpose.

Library now has the reference manager EndNote Basic. This programme is being phased out by Saxion Library.

Scribbr APA citation manager helps create source citations. Through a number of steps, this web application generates a source citation and reference. Review the result critically!

Note:

Word includes a tool that allows you to easily create a source list and source references. Word bases this on the APA6 rules. The new APA guidelines are based on APA7. Microsoft Office has not yet made any changes for Word.
